A Day in the Lifestyle – June

By Artist Frank Morrison

Hello! And welcome to another beautiful day! So glad you could join me!

Morning Routine: You can read about my typical morning routine here.

I used 8fit for my morning workout and this video for yoga.

Last week, I mentioned Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick, which is one of my favorite products. Today, I just wanted to mention that they have expanded the line to include Shimmer shades, as well. Shimmer Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in Patina is one of my favorites.

I would also like to encourage everyone to check out Uoma Beauty, a black-owned cosmetics store. I just found out about this store, so I can’t recommend any specific products, as I never recommend anything I haven’t tried. However, I have placed an order for the Say What?! Foundation, so I will let you know my thoughts once I get a chance to try it out. I have heard great things about this foundation, so I’m super excited to try it out.

Breakfast: I made these blueberry muffins from Preppy Kitchen.

They were every bit as good as they look. Probably even better.

Coffee: I brewed up some Blueberry Cobbler coffee from Prairie Fire, which we picked up at SpecialTea in Blair. It was very good.

Tea: We have been drinking Cameron Valley Tea and Golden Gate Green Tea.

Homemaking: My peonies have finally bloomed! They are so pretty!

We have been trying to do some work in our yard, starting with redoing our front yard landscaping. Right now, we are removing almost everything that we had previously (except the peony plant), so it just looks like a big disaster. Yikes. However, in another part of the yard, we have gotten the beginnings of our herb garden in. RIP chamomile, but otherwise we are doing okay with the basil and mint. I will be putting some rosemary in today. Taking this one day (or week) at a time.

Errands: Bizi’s friend had never had Eileen’s Cookies! What?! I am originally from the Hastings, NE area, so there was no way I could let this go. We had to drop off some Eileen’s for Kylene.

Shopping: I ordered some new Ateco decorating tips so I can make these profiteroles from Preppy Kitchen. I also ordered a new dehydrator, as I have had mine for over 20 years now and I thought it was about time to try out a new one. We also picked up these Libbey Martini Glasses because we didn’t have any. I don’t know how we didn’t have any, but we didn’t. My pie crust shield from Sur la Table also showed up. It was the last piece of my order. I haven’t gotten a chance to use it yet, but I’m hoping it will help my pies stay prettier!

Lunch: I made these Smashed White Bean, Basil & Avocado Sandwiches from Pumpkin & Peanut Butter.

Drinks: We enjoyed a yummy Summer Vodka Slush. We also made a One Flew Over the Cosmos Nest (the reason we needed to buy martini glasses). We are working our way through Tequila Mockingbird by Tim Federle. The cosmo is the drink that goes along with our first book – more on that below.

Supper: Last Thursday was National Burger Day, so Dan grilled us some hamburgers. He’s the best.

The last few days, we have had a lot of pasta. I didn’t realize I had planned so many pasta dishes for this week! Whoops! They are all family favorites, though, so I think you will enjoy them!

This week, I made Summer Pasta Primavera, Crockpot Rotini & Veggies, and White Wine Spaghetti.

Family Time: As you may know, Nebraska Passport has begun for 2020! We couldn’t be more excited about this, as this is one of our favorite family summer activities. This is the fourth year we are participating. This year, I am blogging about our Passport adventures over at Two Blondes in the Heartland. Please follow along!

Evening Reading: You can read more about my full evening routine here.

As for what I am reading, I finished The Last Letter to Your Lover by Jojo Moyes, which was great (five stars on Goodreads). I’m now reading Sheltering Rain, also by Jojo Moyes. Only a chapter in, but it seems that I will really like it.

Dan and I have also started reading One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest by Ken Kesey. We are trying to read more together and the book I mentioned above makes it more fun by giving us interesting drink ideas.

Last, but not least, I’d like to leave you with what has honestly been on my mind much more than any of the things I mentioned above.

Let’s all do better at taking care of each other.
