Book Review: America by Mike Bond

The first in a seven-volume series, America follows the story of Troy, Mick, Daisy and Tara as they grow up outside Nyack, NY in the ‘60s.  Through their eyes, we experience the asassination of Kennedy, Vietnam, the beginning of the end for the family farm.

I wasn’t sure I was going to like this book.  For some reason, I thought it was going to be boring.  And dry.  And a chore to sludge through.  I don’t know where in the world I got that idea.  This book is EXCELLENT.  Mike Bond made history come alive in this novel.  I learned more about the ‘60s in this book than I’ve ever learned in any textbook.  The way he was able to fully develop characters while also giving me a complete history lesson was incredibly impressive.  I can’t wait to read the next installment in the series.

Absolutely recommend this one.  100%.  It should be available at your local bookstore, so pick it up!!

Thanks to Mike Bond and Meryl Moss Media Group for my gifted copy in return for my honest review.
